Day 00: Austin – Preparing for the Journey

It’s early morning as I write this up from the airport where I’m flying to Boston for a work trip six days before we leave for our honeymoon. I’m flying back Friday morning so we can get packed for Alaska.

This weekend, we took stock of our clothes and made sure we have everything we need for cooler, rainy weather. We both decided to order some new rain pants because we’re not sure how waterproof our old ones still are. I also couldn’t find my cool weather gloves and ordered some of those kind that let you use a smartphone with them still on.

We’re going to pack four days’ worth of clothing and do laundry a couple of times. I made sure to book accommodations in Anchorage and Fairbanks that have washer/dryer. We always fly carry-on only and after traveling to Japan with just carry-on, I think we will be able to get everything to fit for this trip too.

Saturday is going to be a very long day of travel. We leave at 12:00 CDT and arrive in Alaska at 21:00 AKT which is 12 hours. We take a three-hour flight to Detroit first, then fly Detroit to Anchorage in almost seven hours. It’s not a direct route but it’s what we could book without leaving very early in the morning.

As I was packing my suitcase for my business trip, Brienne decided she wanted to come with me.

See you on the road soon.
